.

We receive hundreds of medication refill requests each week that require us to implement policies and guidance regarding the refill of your medications.

Additionally, insurance requirements for certain medications, namely GLP1s, require additional steps to ensure coverage is approved in the form of Prior Authorizations (PA).

Our office has policies covering all our prescriptions with additional specifications for coverage.

General Refill Guidelines

Our nursing staff works to refill your prescriptions in a timely manner.  Requests received by our staff are filled within 48hrs if they are not subject to additional regulations.

For prescription refills, please dial the office main number and select the option to leave a message for the refill line or speak with our front desk coordinators to connect with the nurse.  Messages for refill should be left during our refill hours; M-W 8a-4p, Th-F 8a-3p.

To ensure all requests are addressed in a timely manner please contact the pharmacy for refills before leaving a request on the refill line. We understand that life events occur, but please ensure refills are requested in a timely manner to allow adequate time for approval.

Note that all refills require a yearly physical and updated pharmacy information to honor requests.

Some medications also require follow ups more frequent than your annual. Any questions can be directed to the provider through a portal message or by leaving a message with the front desk staff.

Controlled Substance Medications

Controlled substance medications fall into two categories in terms of refill parameters here at Danvers Family Doctors.

Controls like Vicodin, Percocet, Tramadol , Fioricet, Gabapentin, Concerta, Adderall, Vyvanse and Adzenys are filled on WEDNESDAY ONLY and should be requested in advance of this.

Others do not have to be filled on a Wednesday and include testosterone, Lyrica, Lunesta Phentermine, Lorazapam, Alprazolam, Ativan, Ambien, and Xanax.

As with all prescription refills, approval is based on up-to-date physicals/follow up appointments. Additionally, these medications are also subject to an up-to-date Control Substance Contract which must be completed annually.

Weight Management Medications

Prescriptions for GLP1 medications is a time intensive and regulated process that must follow specific steps.

The first stage of the process is to meet with your provider to discuss your qualifications, the side effect profiles, and other important information. At this time, patients will also be asked to complete a weight loss medication contract.

Please know that the prescription will not be readily available at this appointment as the next step of the process requires paperwork from our providers and nursing staff. This process can take upwards of 2 weeks to complete, but rest assured that our staff is working to get you coverage as soon as possible and will let you know the results of your request as soon as it is available.

Please note that submission to the pharmacy for prior authorization may result in the pharmacy notifying you of a lack of coverage. This is only the initial submission, however, and you should wait to hear from our nursing staff as to the final status of your request.

Please refer to the weight loss management contract for more information.
